So, let me see if I understood this episode: you've got a village filled with communists who won't accept any ideas that will improve their living standards, and the new protagonist is feeling pissed off by the fact she has to put in a lot of effort just to get the same as everyone else does. Her father was killed trying to steal for the "collective good", and her uncle is a self-interested degenerate who just traded his life for hers.

I must congratulate the original mangaka and the production team for creating such a realistic portrayal of communists.
Pretend there's something flashy and cool here.

If I remember correctly, badeni destroyed the letter with the wish to give profits to potocki and his address. So its really nice of oczy to include it in his book. Didn't expect that.

Yes he did. But in the end Badeni changed his heart. I'm thinking of scenarios where Badeni supervised Oczy journal and just let it be there without caring too much since he knows what kind of human Oczy is.

Loving this new character. Betrayal, but a very interesting development. She has the book too. Can't wait to see where this goes.

Damn, the uncle screwed over Draka. Well at least he understands Draka is intelligent and he is intelligent himself so he likely expects Draka to make the best of a situation and maybe he did not even plan that originally just was a bluff but then under threat against his village his hand was forced. Hard to say if his actions should be taken at face value or not.

No. They are peasants (peasant is a feudalist class of farmers) that live by their religious beleifs in a practice of koinonia, due to that class they belong to they are at the bottom of society and try to live outside of that society in their own community by sticking together helping each other out like their religious beleifs suggest they should. They sell products they make because of what Draka suggested as an alternative to relying on stealing and hunting. They are relatively happy in their current state after improving things because they have their God and they have eachother which is why it was suggested making them compete against eachother would not bring them more happiness. In the previous episode you were told the peasant class pays tithes to the church, during this time a tithe was a required payment to the church, a sort of tax imposed on people which is possibly another reason why they do not want to live in excess because they will be giving more to the church which perhaps they dont look fondly on. Draka's newer suggestions were mostly not good at all, it was to turn everyone against eachother competitively in an all or nothing battle royal of labour where only one person gets everything and everyone else gets nothing and she also said to artificially hold back supplies from them to make them desperate. We dont really know why Draka's dad was killed at this point if it is as suggested, we only got the words of Draka on the matter. All in all, they dont choose to be peasants, which influences on how they get to live their lives not just how much money they make determining that.

Is Draka the daughter of Jolenta? Her features resemble her.

Title drop. I thought the book was written by Badeni and we don't know the fate of that book tattooed behind people's heads. But apparently, this book was written by Rafal.

The book is the one written by Grabowski using the beggars' tattooed head. It is basically the book written by Oczy that Badeni deemed worthy to leave to their successors hoping it would sparkle inspiration to others. Oczy wanted to honor the request left in the original stone chest to give 10% of the profits to Potocki and thats why Badeni included the thing

@WhiteTestament

I see. When he came across the chest the first time around, he didn't want to contribute to Potocki. Hence, my confusion.

I wonder what made him change his mind.

We finally get to see and learn about the new MC of the anime, alongside with the introduction of this 3rd chapter of Orb!
This anime always brings us interesting characters with unique ways of seeing the world, and Draka is another example of that. The need she has for money, because that what she associates with being "protected" is an interesting point of view. It's right that money does give you better chances of living, but it's clear that this is more of a projection she made from the trauma she has with the losses of her father (that died, because he was doing something to get money).
Anyways, her uncle gave some interesting words, but when he said his conviction was to overule all of his convictions to survive, was indeed a red flag, because in order to survive, after getting caught (a thing that happened, because he was searching for wine to saciate his addiction), he just offered his niece without even a second thought... What a worthless piece he is...
In between this, Draka discovers the book the liberation action left in that house, that contains Oczy's words about heliocentrism! We finally got to see what was written! It's kind of cute how in the end of the book it still states that 10% of the profits made should go to Potocki (who probably isn't alive anymore, since it has been more than 35 years, I wonder if they'll keep up this in the end).

Anyways, I'm really curious to see if Draka is just going to be treated as a slave, or if she's going to be able to escape. Also, it's nice for the protagonist to be a woman this time around! It's interesting to see how the focus now is more on how the study will be published.
Also, the backstory we saw last episode must be Schimtt's backstory then!

This anime doesn't stop surpring me, really. Can't believe we are already at episode 17 though! I hope Draka is able to, somehow, escape. Or maybe she will get taken as a slave, and then she will be liberated by the faction from last episode? Since she doesn't believe in God, maybe she will get along with Schmitt's ideas?
Edit: I also wonder if Draka is going to view things differently now, that she has seen what her uncle did to her, since her perspective was caused by what he said when she was a child.

The writing of this story can't be praised enough; Draka is such a fascinating character, that by the end of the episode, I already loved her! Also, I thought the way the story unfolded to show the other side of the end of last week's episode was great. When I understood that Draka was about to stumble on the book, I was so excited! I hope she finds the heretics (or they find her), and they help her get out of the pinch she's in.

@patkarunungan Nothing resemble her except both are being a woman..
Talking about resemblance, this anime taking a lot of resemblance with their characters.
The first time I saw the OP, I thought Badeni was the adult version of Rafal, and the uncle that sold Draka was the old version Oczy.

Yeah she got betrayed so hard there, considering its come from her uncle. But i feel like those uncle actually have more motives. Tho lets make into a positive vibes more and be it as a reason to let her seek for more freedom outside of the camp, and with the book on her hides, gonna need a change to the world with the sale of the book. Somehow. Gonna be interesting to know more of her story so yeah, that's just my random thoughts of this...

This is a nice social commentary on socialism, and capitalism. At the same time, the story has reached a point that people are starting to doubt the legitimacy of the church. The stranglehold is loosening.

It's very interesting to hear about stimulating economic competition from a 16 year old girl. Why does the advice to read more books work for a gypsy in the 1400s? After all, this is the only explanation for her intelligence here.

Loving the new cast and theme of the show. Its just unfortunate that whilst I have already grown to like Draka, and probably will continue to like even more given my experiences of the previous characters... She's probably going to die soon ahaha fml.

Draka doing work ๐Ÿ‘ and trying to create capitalism in her tribe village. On paper it sounds like a smooth operation. Chart out everything, and take what you want to salvage.

But these heads really want the community ๐Ÿ‘€ kinda sus to throw God to the street but that's breeding the heretic thoughts.

Screw this old rat. Selling out his people. She got a good read XD but it's not quite worth dying over immediately. Not only did he sell her off, but she unintentionally has heretic stuff on her. No forgiving that old man.

Lol I couldn't tell if Draka was female at all, until her uncle, Dhruv, reached to approached her again. She looks like a very smart kid. One with a strong intent to live on.

Another dark past, of using females in such a way.

In a way the more I watch this, the less I find myself to her god.

Very interesting character introduction episode, this new girl also had a difficult life having lost her father at a young age and now only has that old man with the scar over his eye as family.

What's interesting is that he raised her with a rejection of God, which aligns with her feelings at the beginning of the episode... but what's also important is what the man said that he would prioritize his own survival above anything else and he did stay true to his word as he hands the girl over to the authorities at the end in exchange for his own safety... At least we can feel that she won't let it slide and she already shows a capitalist mindset due to her past as she thinks about producing multiple copies of the heliocentrism book to sell and make money.

I wonder where this is going next.
